The safest place

“3 In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” (1 Peter 1: 3-4)

We live in a society where people are looking for a safe place to live (I mean, people are now building houses with safe rooms). But, all the protection on this earth can’t protect us from everything life throws our way.

In reality, there is no safe place on earth that can protect us from everything. There’s no magical place on earth that can shield us from aging, weakness, disease or death. Nowhere keeps you totally and completely safe. But the Apostle Peter reminds us in 1 Peter 1:3-6 that our inheritance is in the safest place.

The questions are, where is it and how do we access it?

Our inheritance is safe in God

Peter reminds us that there is a safe place and a powerful Saviour who watches over our future salvation. Our ultimate salvation has been protected by a strong Protector. He describes this inheritance in verse 4. He uses four words to characterise our inheritance: it never perishes, it never spoils, it never fades, and it is kept by a divine Protector.

Our inheritance is shielded by God’s power through faith

From the time we get saved until our earthly lives are over (and we spend eternity with the Lord), we are on a journey. On that journey, we encounter mountains, valleys, trials, and attacks of the enemy. But continuing his thoughts on the living hope we have through the resurrection of Jesus and the inheritance that is kept in heaven for us, the apostle Peter tells us that we are being shielded by God’s power on our earthly journey. God has the power to keep us strong and protected from the devil’s schemes. Don’t get it twisted - it is not our own power that can achieve this; it is only God’s power that can keep us! But if in our day-to-day we need that power, what turns activates it? Peter says that it is “through faith.” It’s not through self-effort that you activate God’s power. You get it when you say, “God, I can’t make it without you! I need You, Lord!”

Your inheritance has been settled up in heaven. Your salvation is kept by the power of God through faith and He is able to do the utmost; not only for your life after death but also for your life here on earth.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the salvation You have given through Jesus. Thank You for keeping it safe for us, so that it will never ever perish. Thank You for loving us and keeping Your covenant eternally. I believe in Your power.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen.
